What is the Right Weight Road Show?

We all recognise thin horses as being a problem but the ILPH has noticed a dramatic increase in the number of overweight horses around the UK. Understandably, there is a lot of confusion about what the Right Weight for horses actually is. Do you know how much your horse really weighs? There are many reasons why knowing the weight of your horse is important. The health issues are key (to read more about these, click here) but you also need to know this in order to calculate the correct dose of wormer – how many of us give a larger dose just to be on the safe side? If you travel your horse in a lorry or trailer, it is vital that you know what the total weight of this is, including your horse and all your equipment, hay, water, etc, to make sure you are under the legal weight limit.

For most owners, finding out the exact weight of your horse is no easy task. To help you achieve this, the ILPH is running the Right Weight Road Show around the UK. You will be able to attend either with or without a horse. Everyone who comes along will see a presentation about the Right Weight, learn how to use a weightape and how to body condition score your horse. The ticket price includes an information pack containing a weightape, instructional DVD and relevant literature. If you book a place with your horse, you will receive all of the above as well as having your horse weighed on a state-of-the-art weighbridge and individual advice from a qualified equine nutritionist. Everyone will be able to use the weightape to monitor the weight of their horse on a regular basis. Tickets are £10 with a horse, £5 without.

You will be sent a booking form to complete and return along with payment and when we receive this, you will be sent a ticket and information to bring along on the day. If there are no suitable dates currently available but you would like to register your interest for future events, please contact us on 01953 497217. Please note that booking is essential as we will not be able to take additional horses or ponies on the day.
