Tony has been working for the ILPH since November 1999. Prior to that he was a Senior Equine Lecturer at Walford College, Shropshire where he helped set up and run the equine facilities as well as training students of all levels. He was a BHS Chief Examiner for nearly 20 years and was part of the examinations advisory group.

Tony has sat on numerous committees and is often involved in liaison with both government and equine bodies. His current role involves the management of all our UK operations including four farms and seventeen Field Officers.

Director of International Training

Ian Kelly has been the ILPH’s International Training Manager for nearly four years. He joined the ILPH from The Royal Household, at Buckingham Palace where he held the position of Superintendent for the Royal Mews. Prior to that he was Headquarter Squadron Leader in the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment where one of his main responsibilities was regimental training.

Ian, who is married with two grown-up sons, has had a long career with horses, which have been an important part of his life. He has revamped the ILPH’s International Training introducing a more standardized five year programme across the different countries, this is based on the principle that it is essential for the ILPH to leave behind knowledgeable local individuals, who can maintain sound equine management techniques after the ILPH has departed.

Director of Communications and Campaigns

Jo has worked at the ILPH for over three and half years, and is responsible for running the Campaigns Department, this covers all of the research, political lobbying and profile-raising activities required to run the ILPH’s operational campaigns.

Before joining the ILPH, Jo worked within a number of areas of the horse industry, including working as a Course Manager and Lecturer in Equine Studies at Further and Higher Education, as an Editor of specialist horse magazines and websites. She has written, produced, and marketed equine distance learning material, as well as working as a yard manager, instructor, rider and groom in the UK and abroad.

While obtaining her HND and Degree in Equine and Business Studies at Warwickshire College, she passed the British Horse Society Intermediate Stable Manager, Stage IV Riding and BHSAI examinations. Jo continues to take an active interest in developing her practical skills
