Direct DebitTotal income for 2005 was £6.9 m compared with £6.2m in 2004, a rise of
10.7%. Both years include sales of property – our Irish property in 2005 which
showed a net profit of £900K and Cherry Tree Farm in 2004 (net profit £530K).
The money from these sales has been invested in a separate fund pending the
purchase of a new farm.
Our income this year was bolstered by the sale of our Irish property but 2005
was the last year in which we can rely on property sales (until after we have
bought our new farm); for 2006 we have to rely on legacies and our supporters’
generous donations. Where possible we maximize the benefits of these donations
by claiming Gift Aid. In 2005 this was worth nearly £0.3 million and we were
pleased that an Inland Revenue audit of our systems showed that we were meeting
their requirements and reclaiming Gift Aid wherever possible.
Charitable expenditure increased by 1% compared to 2004 however in reality the
increase was nearer to 3%. This was because in 2005 we were able to achieve
savings in the cost of running our farms following agreement with Customs and
Excise on our VAT status. The main areas of expansion were in our Responsible
Horse Ownership courses and in our Campaigning activities.
